Known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is a city full of rich history and culture just waiting to be explored. Whether you love fine dining, sightseeing, or just enjoying the waves on the beach there’s a whole world on offer to you here.

Fans of the popular series Game of Thrones can live the fantasy and treat themselves to a variety of tours around the various filming locations, including the Red Keep and the Sept of Baelor. Prices can range from £18 to £60 so do your research beforehand to decide which is the right tour for you.

For those of you who prefer your history lessons to be strictly real world, you can’t pass up the chance to visit the Walls of Dubrovnik. Dramatic sights and views you can barely describe, gaze out over the Old Town and ocean in turn as you soak in the sun. Bear in mind the busy and quiet seasons and whether there are any cruise ships in town, as that can significantly change the amount of foot traffic to this iconic site. Once you descend from the dizzying heights find your way to one of Dubrovnik’s true gems. Dividing the Church of our Savior from the Franciscan Monastery is a pathway that leads to the Old Pharmacy, a medieval Pharmacy that has been in operation since 1317. Best visited at the end of the day, the pharmacy (and it’s inner garden) is one of the oldest in Europe.

If your feet aren’t worn out from all that sightseeing, there is shopping aplenty to be had in Stradun (or Placa). Completely pedestrianised, Stradun was once a channel but is now the main street of the Old Town and it is littered with bars, restaurants, and shops selling all kinds of art and souvenirs. When those dogs start barking, take a moment to sit and watch the Swifts as they flit about the rooftops overhead.

For the foodies among you, Croatia boasts 7 Michelin star restaurants, including 360 right here in Dubrovnik. Sitting atop the UNESCO-designated Old Port, 360 offers an immaculate array of dishes guaranteed to delight. But you don’t have to go all out for a unique eating experience, Konoba Tanak and other similar spots offer local food at prices that won’t make your eyes water.

Even once the sun has gone down, you can still enjoy the ocean views while embracing the local nightlife. Several cliff bars offer both views and atmosphere with terraces clinging to the rocky cliffs above the sea. With a name meaning literally ‘hole in the wall’ Bu II is the ideal spot to enjoy a drink as you listen to the waves.

When it’s time for bed, you are spoilt for choice, there are many sites for you to choose from, for example hrvaska.net. You can go fine and fancy with the likes of Hotel Lapad, but don’t rule out some of the quaint yet romantic options like Villa Sigurata.

With its’ limestone streets stretching out before you, Dubrovnik is just waiting for you to discover something new. Do skorog videnja!
